WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY?

Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic essential oils extracted from plants. Different parts of plant will be used. For example lavender and rose oils are extracted from flowers. Lemongrass and peppermint are prepared from leaves of the plants, and cinnamon from a bark of the tree. These oils are volatile, meaning they evaporate, and they mix better with oil than water. They can be added into a diffuser for inhalation, blended in massage oils, lotions and skin care products to be applied directly on the skin or added to a bath.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AROMATHERAPY?

Aromatherapy benefits your skin directly, has localized effects in the area applied or systemic benefits to the whole body. Each of essential oils has different constituents that lend them their properties. Lavender for example has been used for thousands of years for pain relieving, antidepressant, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and sedative properties.

HOW DO I CHOOSE ESSENTIAL OILS?

We have taken long time to find the essential oils that would meet our expectations. Many factors have played a role in our decision. Are the plants from which the oils are extracted grown organically? How are they harvested and distilled? Can we verify that? Are there any synthetic fragrances added? Are the essential oils sitting for a long time on a shelf in a store? That is why we offer only dōTERRA brand of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® oils that are delivered directly from the producer to us.

HOW CAN I USE THESE ESSENTIAL OILS AT HOME?

Our essential oils have many applications. Starting with simple rubbing a drop of lavender oil in your palms and taking moment to inhale and relax. We like to use them in a diffuser; it takes only a few seconds to fill it with water and add three to four drops of oils. We suggest essentials oils be diluted in coconut oil before direct application, so they won’t irritate your skin. Oils can be added to Epsom and Sea salts and them used in foot bath. There are many ways to use essential oils and many possibilities to create your own unique blends.

IS AROMATHERAPY SAFE?

Most of the essential oils are generally recognized as safe (GRAS). Some can make your skin more sensitive and it’s best to avoid exposure to sun after topical application for a period of time.

IS THERE A PROOF THAT AROMATHERAPY WORKS?

There is a large amount of research regarding the properties and use of essential oils. One of the first prominent researchers was French chemist Rene Gattefosse. You can read the latest about aromatherapy and complementary and alternative medicine research.
