WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY AND WHAT IT DOES?
“Reflexology is a science that deals with the fact there are reflex areas in our hands and feet that correspond to all glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using thumb and fingers on these reflex areas.” Dwight Byers, Better Health with Foot Reflexology, p. 8
Reflexology relieves stress and tension, improves blood and nerve supply and helps your body to achieve balance, known as homeostasis.

College of Nursing at Michigan State University conducted first large scale study of reflexology as a complement to standard cancer treatment on advanced stage breast cancer patients. They found that the group of patients that received reflexology (by certified Ingham Method Reflexologists) experienced significant improvements in their symptoms compared to the group that was receiving foot massage. No adverse effects were reported. The review of this study is published on PubMed.
Dr. Mehta, an oncology radiologist at South Florida Radiation Oncology and 21st Century Oncology in Miami and integrative medicine practitioner, uses reflexology as a complementary therapy. We asked why he would recommend reflexology sessions to his patients and how it helps them. He answered: “I very frequently recommend some sort of reflexology, if possible, for patients and even caregivers/loved ones because it may reduce pain and psychological obstacles such as anxiety and depression, while enhancing relaxation and sleep. Reflexology is one of the tools that can have long lasting effects on the body’s ability to cope with stressors.”
